I think a lot of us are living to prevent the result of something else, whatever that something else is.

• Poverty
• Homelessness
• Routines/Schedules
• Shackled to a desk
• Living paycheck to paycheck
• Having a boss
• Always chasing (going after what you don’t have)

When attacking life from the perspective of prevention, you’re exchanging your soul for something that you don’t want.

Therefore, you might be leaving what you do want on the table, because you can’t see what you can’t see.

Now, this prevention comes from the desire to be profitable.

But at what cost?

There is nothing wrong with making money. Money is a gift and can be used for good, just as it can be used for bad.

Again, it comes down to the cost. Are you willing to give up everything?

And coming from the Christian perspective, your purpose is to glorify God and to know Him. Now, you do have gifts and talents. You have a calling placed on your life. And you can connect that all to an “earthly” purpose if you so desire.

Yet for this discussion, I’m using “purpose” from a biblical meaning.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Live with intention, not prevention!

I was listening to an interview with Ben Roethlisberger (18 years with Pittsburgh Steelers), and he mentioned how his upbringing was grounded in Jesus Christ. He was raised in the church. But football got in the way of keeping God number one. And he even let his wife slip to number 4 or 5.

As he continued to share, he said that even his father was afraid to talk to him, because his dad didn’t think he would pay attention or care.

Ben owned this mess he chose to put himself in. He chose profit over his soul.

Meanwhile, God was still working on him. And eventually, he had his “coming to Jesus” moment. And now, football was no longer number one. It was more like 4 or 5.

Even his marriage suffered. He said after about 5 or 6 years, he wasn’t even putting his wife at the top. Their kiddos beat her out. That’s wrong!

He had to own the mess he created by putting profit before his purpose.

CHALLENGE: What are you giving up in order to gain?

Are you ready to lose your family to gain money or fame?

Are you ready to lose your faith to gain the fame?

Are you ready to lose your sanity to gain your personal freedom?

Life is not easy, but there is some common sense that you cannot ignore.

God’s got something bigger in store for you. But if you let your own definition of success rule the way, you will never rule your day. You will be held captive to the profits of what destroyed your purpose. Your priority is the pursuit of a relationship that will change your life and impact the world that you touch.

Slow down so you can speed up. God wants to give you more than you can imagine. But you have to be willing to let Him.

Be patient.

Be consistent.

Be intentional.
