No one ever travels miles before they take the first step. But for some reason, we have it in our mind that we should always be much further along than we actually are.
So instead of beating a dead horse that’s guaranteed to fail, you just don’t even try.
That in itself is a copout. I used to live by my successes, being perfectly healthy ALL the time. No room for an unhealthy choice. And then when I did cheat, I might as well have spray-painted “FAILURE” permanently on my body.
No matter the day, I would look at my reflection and see FAILURE!
Success was never in view. The more falls I took from seasons of trying, the deeper I fell into the pit of failure.
It became my middle name.
In order to get to where you are headed on your health journey, you must be willing to measure success in unexpected ways.

If you keep doing the same thing that leads you to the pit of failure, something MUST change.
And that’s how you measure success. Because if you are successful, and feel successful, you are more likely to stay on track with your health journey.
When I decided to take my health seriously, I started with the numbers game. I wanted to be a size 0 or 2, and then be about 115 to 120 pounds on the scale.
I DID IT!!!!
But it wasn’t where I was supposed to be. My body couldn’t keep up with the demand of the numbers. With my injuries sprinkled in the mess, living a life by a number was beyond unhealthy. It was draining every bit of life out of me.
So the focus had to change; the measure of success became directed to HEALTH and not numbers.
How much of your health is dictated by numbers?
- The amount of weight you want to lose.
- The amount of weight you lost.
- The amount of calories you eat.
- The size on the hanger.
- The size of your jeans.
- The size of yoga pants!
Continuing to sustain your health by numbers is suffocating.
So how do you measure success in unexpected ways?
- Treat your body as a temple.
- How you care for your body influences your entire life. You have one beautiful body. Love it!!!
- Hang out with the positives.
- Leave the negatives alone. Reframe the bad into good. “I only lost 5 pounds.” —- “My jeans fit looser.“
- Be in AWE of yourself.
- Celebrate what YOUR body can do. No comparison. With every step you take, know that it’s all for you.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14) Start living like you are.
