1. Let’s talk first about why Vitamin D is important. [Reference – NIH]
- Promotes calcium absorption in the gut.
- Helps prevent soft bones (rickets) in children and misshapen bones (osteomalacia) in adults.
- Helps prevent older adults from osteoporosis with calcium.
- Reduces inflammation.
- Helps with neuromuscular and immune functions.
Vitamin D is very powerful.
2. How much do you need?
That can very based on where your current levels are. I recommend you get your Vitamin D levels tested. Your medical care provider can assist you in what you need.
Keep in mind that just because something is good for you doesn’t mean you can’t overdue it. Be very careful how you decide to get your Vitamin D.

How cool is it to take care of your body by just walking outside?!?!
As you know, Vitamin D is lacking in our bodies for a lot of us. Most Vitamin D can be obtained through the sun.
But one thing that is holding you back is your sunscreen.
Yes, sunscreen is extremely important. However, with the increased use of sunscreen in order to prevent skin cancer, the amount of Vitamin D we get is lower than needed.
You can use sunscreen and still get your Vitamin D from the sun. All you need is 20 minutes in the sun 2-3 times a week to get what your body needs. And when you get it from the sun, your body knows exactly what to do with it. It’s all NATURAL! 🙂
Get some fun in the sun for 15 to 20 minutes. Be very smart about it. Don’t make it in the heat of the day. Wait until later in the day, or go out earlier in the morning.
Be sure to check with your medical care provider when making decisions regarding your Vitamin D and skin health.
One thing I would recommend is making sure you use sunscreen on your face ALWAYS!! No exceptions. You can change your clothing to expose your body to the sun; but don’t compromise when it comes to your face. As your body gets tanner, you can change your foundation. You only get one face. Protect it ALWAYS!
Supercharge your summer doesn’t have to be all rules. Have fun in the sun and be smart about how you can let the sun rock your health even more.
