“We don’t remove the clutter, reduce the stress, and boycott busyness to have a simple life. We do it to have a life.” ~ Courtney Carver
Quotes and statements within the interview:
“I prefer to learn from other messy humans compared to experts sometimes.”
“I wanted to show up as me.”
“I was really caught up in the more. I always thought the solution was more.”
“I wanted to give her more to ease her pain.”
“I was right on the edge of what I could give.”
“She called me at work and delivered the news over the phone which was horrifying.”
“I wanted to figure out how I could live well with MS.”
“I just thought stress was a part of life.”
“When I’m eating less of them and less sugar, I feel even less stress in my body.”
“All the changes I made lasted whether they were with diet or anything else.”
“I think when we’re so focused on that end goal, we miss all those lessons in between and then we end up right back where we started.”
“Simplicity in my life has been really eliminating distractions and stress, and giving me the space to focus on what’s most important.”
“We have to be willing to let go when things aren’t working any more.”
“Just in case what?”
“Our homes are not storage containers. They’re a place for joy and connections. So let’s make room for more of that.”
“But I think the bigger part at least for me was easing pain.”
“It’s all temporary until you figure out what the pain is and how to soothe it in a more meaningful, permanent way.”
“But if I just wait and take those first few minutes or hours or however long I devote to it during the day to that morning routine, to sitting still, then the rest of the day is so much better even if it is pretty full.”
“Once you start, you’re always gonna be moving from that reaction that you have now to the pain.”
“It was about remembering myself..”
“I was just always looking out for the answers when all I had to do was look in.”
“You cannot serve them in your best possible way unless you are serving yourself first.”
“While I think that I had time for them before, now I have the presence and the time for them.”
“We have to start saying no when our heart says no.”
“Acting in accordance to what we think is important verses what we say is important.”
“White space on your calendar is a beautiful thing.”
“We can’t put our lives in everyone else’s hands by saying yes all the time.”
“I’m still figuring stuff out and I’m still a mess a lot of the times.”
“All of that time you spent trying to prove who you are by what you wore didn’t work. Now I dress for me.”
“…because I’m really more focused on the life that was waiting for me beneath all the stress, beneath all the clutter, beneath everything.”
