As children go through stages in life, they see only what they know. So in order for growth to occur, we need to recognize they might be chasing the wrong things.
Children go through stages, and so do we. But we don’t always like to look at our adult life as a “stage”.

My son has graduated from elementary school to middle school; and with that comes the necessity to change the patterns of studying. Grades count unlike in elementary school where it was more of the P, S, and N. In middle school, however, you’re graded specifically to your output (the answers).
For he first week or so of school, he was studying how he did in elementary school because that’s what he knew. It wasn’t bad, but he was chasing the wrong things. After his first grade in middle school, we had a discussion.
- What is expected of him in school?
- How can he change his patterns for studying?
The discussion was about broadening his horizon — how he saw things. He was simply studying by what he knew, but that meant he was chasing the wrong things. His priorities didn’t match to where he was in his life.
You might be chasing the wrong things as you look through the narrow lens in your life. That’s where you’re comfortable. That’s what you know. And that’s exactly where you need to be at that point in your life.
BUT… you too go through stages! You are always growing and changing. Hopefully for the better.
“It’s when you limit yourself to past stages that you limit your possibilities and potential. You begin to miss opportunities right in front of you. Your eyes are wide shut!” ~ Kristianne Wargo
