With this being Power Pack Wednesday, a day to dive deeper into your well-being, fitness and nutrition, today we jump into food and fuel. Last Wednesday we chatted about Staying Fit in the Summer, Episode #515.
I never thought of myself as an athlete. But in actuality, we are all athletes of life. You are training for life. You need to fuel your body for optimal performance.

To be able to chase your children in the yard, swim at the beach, or run at the park, and brain power to do work, you need to take care of the body you were given.
Now we may not be elite athletes, but you are an athlete. An athlete is a person who is proficient in sports. Your sport is LIFE.
God made your body, a miracle. You need to respect your body. Instead, though, we live for convenience, an acquired tasted, or what the marketing experts say we should eat (commercials). We consume via temptation.
As a woman of impact, you cannot fall into the “norm” and expect to reach God’s dreams for you. YOU must fuel your body for optimal performance.
What are you eating? How much of it is processed and how much is REAL food?
Sugar is in processed foods. American Heart Association recommends no more than 6 tsps (25 g) of sugar for women and 9 tsps (38 g) for men. Children is varies based on their age and caloric intake; 3-6 tsps (12-25 g) per day. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that no more than 10% of an adults calories should be sugar; however, ideally 5%. For a 2000 calorie diet, 5% is 25 g of sugar.

Consuming too much sugar affects the balance of your hormones that drive critical functions within the body. We are consuming types of food, when chemically broken down, that our body cannon use. Therefore, weight gained.
“Why do I keep gaining weight every year? I’m eating any differently?”, you ask. You are eating food that your body cannot use and it’s being stored as fat; hence your clothes fitting tighter.
So how do you fuel your body for optimal performance?
The K.I.S.S. ~ Start with the FUNdamental basics!
- Read the labels of the food you’re eating.
- Focus on the Serving Size and Total Carbs.
- Example Ben ‘n Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. Serving Size is 1/2 cup. Total Carbs 33 g.
- Consume more REAL food. Whole foods. Foods in the most natural state.
- Drink water. Water is a building block, a vital nutrient.
- 60% of the human body is water.
- Waters helps to regulate body temperature, to lubricate joints, to transport nutrients in the blood stream, to flush wastes.
- A woman should be drinking 2.2 liters of water; a man 3 liters of water.
