Marriage can be comfortable—it can feel like a safe harbor in a chaotic world. But comfort is a double-edged sword. When we become complacent, assuming that our marriage will somehow maintain its course without active effort, we’re setting ourselves up for trouble. It’s not that love fades overnight, but it does become something we stop tending to, something we take for granted. And when we neglect love, it’s not missing suddenly—it’s slowly slipping away. So why not refresh your marriage and rediscover the love you once had?
The truth is, no matter how strong or stable you believe your marriage to be, every relationship needs regular refreshment. It needs moments of pause and reflection, reminders to stay attuned to one another’s hearts.

Unfortunately, when confidence turns into overconfidence—when you believe “everything’s fine” or “nothing’s wrong here”—that’s often when things quietly unravel.
Have you ever paused to ask yourself: just how badly do I want to love my spouse well, right now—in this moment, not just in memory?
Maybe you recalled the eagerness before the wedding, when the future looked bright, and your love felt fresh and fierce. But those hours turned into months to years to decades. The newness wears off, distractions pile up—work, kids, stress—and it becomes easier to live in a habitual marriage than one that is truly alive.
There’s a powerful parallel here between the marriage relationship and the relationship God desires with each of us. Just as love between spouses requires constant renewal, so does our walk with God.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ show us the ultimate example of love: willing to sacrifice, willing to rise again from the depths of difficulty, and willing to pursue reconciliation relentlessly.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Let your marriage R.I.S.E.!
If God continually invites us to return to Him—despite our mistakes, distractions, or complacency—what can we learn from that about loving our spouses?
Here are four essential things any spouse can do to reconcile their marriage and tap into a deeper—not average—love: It’s time to R.I.S.E.!
R – Reach Out Daily
Don’t wait for “the right moment.” Show up wholeheartedly every day. Listen deeply, speak kindly, and invest time in your spouse’s world. Love thrives in consistent attention—not grand gestures alone.
I – Initiate Forgiveness and Grace
Take responsibility where you’ve fallen short. Open the door for healing by asking for forgiveness and extending grace without hesitation. This breaks the cycle of resentment and fuels emotional freedom.
S – Strengthen Spiritual Connection
Build your marriage on more than mutual interests—build it on shared purpose and faith. Pray together, seek spiritual growth, and invite God’s love to infuse your relationship with strength beyond your own.
E – Engage in Purposeful Growth
Commit to growing—not just as individuals but as partners. Set goals together, face challenges as a team, learn from mistakes, and celebrate victories. A marriage that grows is a marriage that stays alive and passionate.
Rediscovering the love you once had isn’t about returning to a nostalgic past. It’s about breathing new life into your daily relationship and choosing—every day—to pursue something greater than comfort or habit. The “average” love settles, but the love worth fighting for rises, falls on knees, asks for forgiveness, and rises again with divine strength.
Your marriage deserves more than average. It deserves to be alive. It deserves intentional, fierce love that mirrors the relentless grace shown to us.
So when you feel your marriage drifting into the “average” zone, remember to RISE, because love isn’t just something that happens to you. It’s something you get up and build every day.
“Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!“
