The game of football can be fun for the family even if you’re not a football fanatic. Tune in for some great ways to make the football shuffle awesome with yummy food and drink ideas, how you can get bonus points with your sweetheart, and a way to get the children involved.
TIME
Your sweetheart says, “I want you to spend time with me.” What does he mean by time? Probably being with him and paying attention; NOT on your tablet/phone or reading. He desires your attention. So for the best football day of the year, make time for him.
FOOD
Any football shuffle needs to have food. One easy way is to slow cook/roast your meat of choice. Create a dome effect with aluminum foil (if you don’t have a cover) and cook at 325 degrees for 2-4 hours depending on the amount of pounds. If you desire a golden color, at the end of cooking til tender, remove the aluminum foil and cook uncovered for 2-5 minutes at a higher temp (375-425). You can broil; be careful where the heat source is located.
What could be tastier than DIP! Yummy. Think about what you want the foundation of the dip to be…sour cream, cream cheese, mustard, or tomato. Then add your favorite seasoning like chili powder, a dash or two of hot sauce, fresh cracked pepper, and sea salt.
When you want those CHIPS to indulge in, enjoy chips with 3 or less ingredients. That way you know they are “real”. You can always add your own seasonings to the chips and place them in the oven for 5-7 minutes at 350 degrees. The best is using the chips with your favorite dip from above. That’s delicious!!
FRESH is best! You can have a fun chocolate fruit bar with cutting up cubed fruits (like apples, bananas or pineapple) and dipping them in melted chocolate with a toothpick. Use 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (semi-sweet, white, anything you desire) and add it to 1-2 squares of almond bark. (This can be purchased in most grocery stores in the bakers isle.) Melt in a microwave safe bowl 1 minute at a time. Stir until smooth. The yummy chocolate fruits can be decorated with sprinkles (orange or blue) for the teams.
DRINKS
No matter which team you want to win, there is a fun drink for you and the young ones. To make these adult drinks, add your favorite shot of alcohol.
The Bronco Drink – 7up/Sprite/Ginger Ale (anything with carbonation) and a scoop or two depending on the size of the scoop of orange sherbet.
The Panther Drink – 7up/Sprite/Ginger Ale (anything with carbonation) and some frozen blueberries and/or blackberries.
The children can color cutouts of a horse or panther, place on a toothpick and there you have your drink decor.
Cheers!!!
DRESS UP
There’s nothing more fun than dressing up. You don’t have to go spend any money. Have the children (and you) decide who they want to cheer for and dress in those colors. It’s ok if everyone doesn’t agree. Have fun with it. You can even face paint with your make-up. Eyeliner works well for this.
HAVE FUN!
Most importantly, make this a fun family time! Time to snuggle. It’s like a built in snow day. If you aren’t able to enjoy the game because you’re in another part of the world OR are listening to this at a later date, ANY DAY can be a built in snow day. Hae a BLAST!!!
