Today, we remember those who gave everything—their lives, their futures, their dreams—so that we could live in freedom.
What freedoms are you thankful for? How can we become so busy that we can’t even take 90 seconds to be grateful to those who gave us this country? Our heroes who sacrificed believed so strongly that they were willing to give their lives so you and I could have our freedoms.

A True Hero Story:
On June 6, 1944, during the D-Day invasion of Normandy in World War II, a young paratrooper named Private First Class (PFC) Charles DeGlopper was part of the 82nd Airborne Division. His unit was pinned down by heavy enemy fire, and the mission was on the brink of collapse.
Seeing his comrades in danger, PFC DeGlopper made a fateful decision. He stood up in the open, drawing the enemy’s attention. Firing his weapon and absorbing countless hits, he kept the Germans occupied long enough for his platoon to maneuver and break free. He was mortally wounded, but his sacrifice saved his unit.
For his bravery, PFC DeGlopper was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. His selfless act allowed his fellow soldiers to survive and continue the fight for freedom.
The Mindset:
PFC DeGlopper’s story highlights the power of selflessness, courage, and belief in something greater than ourselves. He chose to face almost certain death because he believed in the mission and the lives of his friends.
This kind of mindset teaches us:
- Purpose over fear: He didn’t let fear stop him because he focused on his purpose—saving others.
- Service over self: His actions were driven by what he could do for others, not for himself.
- Legacy in sacrifice: True courage creates a ripple effect, inspiring others to act bravely and selflessly in their own lives.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Show your gratitude!
What We Can Do to Show Our Gratitude:
Memorial Day isn’t just about picnics or barbecues; it’s about honoring those who gave their all. Here’s how we can truly show our gratitude:
✅ Live with purpose: Let the memory of those who sacrificed inspire us to be better—more kind, more courageous, more willing to serve.
✅ Serve others: Whether it’s helping a neighbor, supporting veterans’ causes, or simply being there for someone in need, these acts of service honor those who died for us.
✅ Reflect and remember: Take time to learn about a fallen hero’s story, like PFC DeGlopper’s, and share it with others. Keep their memory alive.
✅ Express gratitude openly: Thank veterans and military families. Write a letter, attend a ceremony, or visit a memorial to show your respect.
Who can you thank today for their service? How can you live your day, and not just today, but every day from this point on, with the heart that someone saw a future for our country before you knew?
Today, we remember.
“Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!“
