As we celebrate the resurrection this Passion weekend, we can apply the lessons of sacrifice and sacred love to our marriages, making them stronger and more meaningful. The glory of the resurrection amplifies the beauty of marriage.
At its core, marriage is a reflection of the relationship between God and His people, and at its highest form, a marriage can be an expression of the love between Christ and His bride – the Church.
Therefore, understanding how the resurrection impacts our marriages gives us an unparalleled appreciation for this sacred union.

Let’s start with the power of sacrificial love. In John 15:13, Jesus says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is the ultimate example of sacrificial love.
Sacrificial love means putting others before yourself. When we practice sacrificial love in our marriages, we put our spouse’s needs above our own. We think about what our spouse needs, even when it may not be what we want. We give and serve our spouse sacrificially, without expecting anything in return.
Next, let’s talk about forgiveness. In Ephesians 4:32, it says, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Forgiveness is essential in any relationship, but especially in a marriage. When we forgive our spouse, we let go of the past hurts and move forward. Forgiveness opens the door for love and trust to grow in any marriage. If we want our marriage to be strong and meaningful, we need to learn to forgive our spouse, just as Christ forgave us.
Hope is another essential component of a strong marriage. In Hebrews 6:19, it says, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hope is like an anchor that keeps us grounded when the winds of life threaten to toss us about. When the road ahead looks difficult, uncertain, or even scary, it’s hope that keeps us moving forward. When we have hope, we can face any challenge that comes our way. In a marriage, we need hope to believe that our relationship can weather any storm.

Finally, let’s talk about faith. In Hebrews 11:1, it says, “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Faith is trusting in something that we cannot see or touch. It’s believing that God has a plan for our lives and our marriages, even when we can’t see it. Faith is what binds our relationships together.
Trusting God and believing that He is on our side gives us hope and comfort when life gets tough. When we have faith in our marriage, we believe that our spouse will stay committed to the relationship, even during the most challenging times.
The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus hold vital lessons for couples looking to build a strong and healthy marriage.
So, what does this all mean for our marriages? It means putting sacrificial love into practice by being a servant to our spouse, understand from a biblical perspective. It means forgiving our spouses when they make mistakes. It means having hope for our future together, even when things look difficult. And it means having faith in God and His plan for our marriage.
You see, marriage is sacred. We have an opportunity to create something that is eternal and everlasting. The power of sacred relationships is that they can have an impact that lasts for generations to come.
When we prioritize these values in our marriage, we build a relationship that’s based on love, respect, and trust that stands the test of time.
And when we put these biblical principles into practice in our marriages, we create a legacy of love and commitment that will be remembered for years to come. Commit to building stronger and more meaningful marriages that bring glory to God.
PRAYER: May the power of the resurrection strengthen and bless your marriage today and always.
