When you’re constantly on the go, always striving for more, and pushing yourself to the limit, success seems to be inevitable. But in that pursuit, you often neglect to loiter in rest.
Rest is not a luxury, but a necessity. It’s essential for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

In fact, God commands us to rest.
In Exodus 20:8-10, it says, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.”
God knows that you need rest.
He created you with a need for it. Because when you rest, you allow your body to recharge and rejuvenate. You give yourself the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with God.
You give your mind a break from the constant stimulation and allow yourself to simply BE.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Loiter in rest!
But rest doesn’t just benefit you physically and mentally.
It also has spiritual benefits. When you take the time to rest, you open yourself up to hearing from God.
You give Him the space to speak to us and reveal His plans and purposes for our lives.
In Psalm 46:10, it says, “Be still and know that I am God.”
So, if rest is so important, why do we often neglect it?
One reason is that we have bought into the lie that we need to be constantly productive in order to be successful.
But the truth is, productivity does not equal success. Success is found in living a life that is balanced and fulfilling. It’s found in knowing that we are loved and valued by God, not in what we can accomplish.
Another reason we neglect rest is that we feel guilty for taking time off. We believe that we need to be constantly working in order to prove our worth.
But the truth is, your worth is not based on what you do, but on who you are in Christ.
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, it’s time to loiter in rest. Take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and allow yourself to rest.
- Spend time with God
- Reflect on His goodness
- Allow yourself to simply BE
Remember, rest is not a luxury; it’s a necessity. And when you rest, you position yourself to live a life that is truly fulfilling and abundant.
PRAYER: May you find delight in allowing your mind, body, and spirit to loiter in rest. This is your day to rest.
