“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.)” When you learn how to navigate the challenges of life, you can always keep moving forward.
Today, we honor the life and work of Dr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. People are encouraged to use the day to “reflect on the principles of racial equality and nonviolent social change espoused by Dr. King.” In 1964 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace for his efforts. He was assassinated in 1968.

Whether or not you know of Dr. King, you can still learn a lot from his life, what he stood for, and who he was as a man. He took the introspective part of his life very seriously. He didn’t ask anyone to do anything he wouldn’t do himself.
So going back to “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. (Dr. King)”
This quote reminds us that true character is tested in difficult times. When you are faced with challenges, it is easy to give up or take the easy way out. But true growth comes from pushing through adversity and standing up for what is right.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” ~ James 1:12
The K.I.S.S. ~ Persevere under trial!
When you think about it, perseverance doesn’t come easy, nor does it just happen. It takes work and diligent, consistent effort to stand in the game of life. One of the things that can keep moving you forward is having faith, not in what you can see, but in what you can’t see.
“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
FAITH is an important aspect of personal development. It is easy to give up on our goals and dreams when we can’t see the end result. Plus, when failure strikes, it’s easier to quit.
But Dr. King reminds us that true faith is about taking the first step, even when we don’t know what the outcome will be.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” ~ Hebrews 11:1
When you take faith and then combine it with doing what is right, what are you doing in your life? You’re navigating the challenges that are in your way.
“The time is always right to do what is right.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
DOING WHAT IS RIGHT is not always easy, but it is always the right thing to do. Dr. King reminds us, there is never a bad time to do the right thing.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1
When you have faith, doing what is right, and putting your stamp of love on it, that’s the triple whammy.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
LOVE is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and it is essential to personal development and mindset. You have to love the people where you’re at. You have to love yourself. You have to love the journey you’re on, even if it’s in the presence of challenges.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
We have got to choose to love and stop the hate; it’s too great a burden to bear. And you can’t move forward when you have thoughts of destruction to yourself, or someone or something else.
Take a page out of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. His words are still powerful and inspiring. Use his guidance, wisdom, and encouragement to help you navigate through the challenges of life and become your best selfie.
Remember, when you’re pushing through challenges and adversity, have faith, do what is right, and choose love. You can achieve anything you set your mind to, with hard work and perseverance.
