Kids do not want to be told, threatened, or taunted by their parents. So how do you instruct them on what you want them to learn? Teach more than you preach.
Our children are little sponges. They soak up EVERYTHING!! And yes, I mean everything.

But they’re also smart. They know when you are trying to convince them to do one thing, so they don’t do another.
We know how well that goes over.
Dangling the carrot is only good a couple of times. Because once they learn your method and they get older, they start bargaining with you.
So who’s in the driver’s seat now?
That’s the thing. You always want to be in the driver’s seat. You cannot control your child’s actions or words, but you can train them up right; the way you see fit for your family.
If you want to raise some incredible kids, you definitely want to teach more than you preach.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Teach more than you preach!
No one likes to be hit over the head with rules. Now, there is a time and a place for that. I know I had my share growing up, and I’m sure you did, too. < MP story >
But not every situation requires a yelling voice that curls their hair and makes them want to run away.
You want to teach rather than preach because more is learned when you’re calm versus when they’re nervous (flustered or on edge).
How you train up your child is what you want to stick.
- Share stories to make lessons memorable. The more you tell them, the easier it is to connect the dots.
- Show ’em who is boss. Be that role model for your children. Words have power, but actions solidify habits. When is the best time to teach your child manners? From the very beginning. It’s never too early!
- Support as they grow. Growing up is tough! So be there for your kiddos not just when it’s easy, but when there are challenges and difficulties. You’ve gotta be their greatest cheerleader.
This parenting thing is exhausting. But when you put in the work, the reward is what you get to appreciate years later.
