I so do wish that was the case.
But once again, life isn’t easy. However, today is not about feeling down and defeated.
Today, you need to become empowered to have tough conversations with your children.
And that requires breaking your silence.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Breaking your silence!
Your children need a safe place to fall. They need to understand that no matter the situation, you will always be there for them.
So it’s time to unlock the chains on your mouth and talk with your children.
I’m not really sure why parents are afraid of talking with their children. There could be discussions that make you feel uncomfortable.
But let me ask you this. Wouldn’t you want your child to ask you the questions instead of finding them online or from a stranger?
This is the reality we live in. So as the parent, you get to choose if you are going to be afraid and keep your mouth shut.
OR…It’s all about breaking your silence.
- ASK tough questions in a calm manner. You getting worked up over something before you even know the answers will definitely tip off your child that something is up. Don’t come across as panicky. Be secure in your questions, and wait for the answers. Presupposing puts everyone on edge.
- USE PATIENCE while listening. In simple terms, don’t rush the answers. When you have those tough conversations, keep your calendar open. Your child deserves your uninterrupted attention. Keep the timeline buried and use patience while listening.
- LEAD with hope. You might get caught off guard with a response to your questions. But don’t react frantically. Lead with hope. And if you don’t know what’s going to happen, the consequences of the situation, be honest with your child and let them know you all will figure it out together.
That’s what family is for. Doing life together.
CHALLENGE: What tough conversation have you been avoiding?
CAUTION: No need to rush. Think through when you are going to bring up the topic, how you are going to approach the conversation, and where will this lead to next?
CELEBRATE: Even though you don’t know the outcome, celebrate the little things. One question answered is one less unknown to you.
