Talking can be the most challenging in marriage. What to say when. How to say it. When concerns are raised, how do you express yourself?
Concerns can come from a variety of circumstances: voicing your opinion on a situation, or sharing your side of the story.

All of which you should be very comfortable with in a marriage.
But that’s not the case in many marriages, let alone relationships. We are quick to jump down our partners throat if what we say or think doesn’t match with their opinion.
And once you begin to go down the “I’m Right” Lane, disagreements and arguments are in your future.
Communication is one tough weed. We either do a great job, or we stink at it.
Regardless, it’s the sting in a relationship that holds back intimacy. And that intimacy is the growth the keeps a marriage fresh and strong.
I’m sure you’ve said a few things you wish you could have rephrased after you vomited it out of your mouth.
As for your partner, you can name many times where something wrong has been said and is usually taken from a negative perspective.
What can you when concerns are raised, but you want to be heard too?
The K.I.S.S. ~ Speak out of love!
It’s not a matter of being right or wrong; and that’s where most of us fail. We want to be “right”.
Keeping score is only going to get you into further trouble and deeper discussion that usually leads to an argument.
Who wants a beautiful weekend to end up in a fight?
Not me!
So speak out of love!
- Words should not cut someone into pieces; Words lift up.
- Words should not declare the score of who’s right or wrong; Words are true with a semblance of compassion. You are considering the other person’s perspective, not just your own wants/needs. Be careful not to speak from the WIIFM station.
- Words should not focus on the results desired as much as the growth of the relationship. Words speak love. It’s the intimacy that says, “I put you first above any other outcome.”.
Speak out of love. Build your marriage with a foundation of words spoken in love, with love, and of love.
Love comes in all shapes and sizes. Be gentle with the words you construct as you will either build up or tear down.
Words have power. Use them wisely.
